"That way i could keep the match. I could make a small hole, in the mattress, slide it carefully in. such a thin thing would never be noticed. There it would be, at night, under me while i'm in bed. sleeping on it. I could burn the house down. such a fine thought, it makes me shiver." Reading this made me reflect, if a slave can find a way to hold power, its no longer a dream, its just a challenge.
In life we constantly search for power, our education id power, so were told. We never truly understand what were searching for until we've found it, and what we find at the end of the line, is power. An example of this would be a power we have all known, youth. Youth is a strong tool since many people take pity on them. On another topic, The power seen in this chapter is unique, we finally see offred learning of her abilities from the position she holds in the household. Power means not only dominance of strength, it is most known for control. "Sometimes, after the games, he sits on the floor beside my chair, holding my hand. His head is a little bit lower than mine, so that when he looks up at me its at a juvenile angle. It must amuse him, this fake subservience. Hes way up there, says ofglen. hes at the top, and i mean very top. At such times its to imagine it. Occasionally I try to put myself in his position, I do this as a tactic, to guess in advance how he may be moved to behave towards me. Its difficult for me to believe i have power over him, of any sort, but i do.". The novels main focus is on power, either it be the power of Gilead or when it shifts to offred, there is always someone with it, similar to our world.
In the end, Power is what determines the mood, and direction of the Gilead society, it turns people into their alter egoes, it bends will and is an important tool to obtain.

In this blog Offed is searching for power, similar to our world today, we all want power in our own kind of ways. Offred learns about her real little power in her position and it shows a new side of her not seen before. She likes having tha little power. The quote worked with the argument written. It showed offred's power in the husehold.I like the quote about power and how it is similar to our world in today's world. I agree with the concluding statement and I think that power is the one thing that has control over Gilead. I liked the Blog
RépondreSupprimerPower is something earned, given or stolen. It is sometimes in the hands of the wrong leader in which would lead to poor consequences. Having power is almost fundemental in Gilead, without it, one is treated like a tool or an object. Offred, the main character is a a great example. With the lack of power, she is taken away from her daughter, kidnapped and brought into Gilead and used as a baby-carrier. It is inhumane and terrible, although with power, she could avoid more of the struggles in the upcoming moments. Another example is Janine. She said she was gang raped in her younger age, a reason for this would be the lack of power she had at the moment. At the part where they had to testify, she was alone in the middle, being shammed for an event that wasen't at all her fault. Even at this moment, in the middle of the circle being called a 'crybaby' Janine lacked of power.
